What it means
The City of College Park municipal option sales tax, otherwise known as MOST, is a 1-cent tax that applies to goods purchased in the City of College Park. The current MOST was initially approved by a majority of voters in 2022 for a period of at least four years. This referendum is about whether or not to extend this sales tax for at least four more years.
The money from the tax will be primarily used to maintain and improve sewage and water infrastructure in the City of College Park. Although information could not be found on specific past completed or future projects, two years ago the city planned to:
- Rebuild the 50 year old south east sewer lift station
- Complete of sanitary sewer evaluation inspections and repairs
- Replace water lines
- Implement a city-wide leak detection program
A "yes" vote means
- Funding for sewage and watershed improvement programs will continue for another 4 years.
- City sales taxes will remain at the same level.
A "no" vote means
- Funding for sewage and watershed improvements will need to come from other sources, such as bonds or utility rate increases.
- Sales taxes will decrease by 1-cent every dollar.
