on April 20, 2024

What is your name?

Robin Biro

Tell us more about yourself.

I was on the Obama campaign staff in 2008 for Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. After that I joined the Army and was an Army Ranger in the 75th Ranger Regiment where I did two combat rotations. I decided to stay and make Georgia my permanent home after serving 10 years. I live in Tucker, where I am a single dad raising two boys who attend DeKalb public schools. Service is important to me, and a fair and equitable Georgia for everyone is extremely important to me.

Tucker

Is this your first time running for office?

No

What experiences have best prepared you to hold elected office?

I have been a small businessman for 25 years, a solider for 10 years. In 2019, for lack of a better word, I "inherited" my two half-siblings after a family tragedy. So now I'm a single dad, which is the most important role of my life. As an Army Ranger I led troops, been to combat twice and fought for our nation. I stand ready to fight for Georgia.

What would be your top priority upon winning office?

Some 1.6 million Georgians right now have no health insurance. By expanding Medicaid to include them we can save the state of Georgia about 4% over current system, which is my top priority because it could mean life or death for some of Georgia's most vulnerable. Other top priorities of mine include ensuring that public funding stays for public schools, school safety and passing a citizen's ballot initiative so that the residents of Georgia can petition to get their own ideas on the ballot, cutting through government red tape and partisan infighting.

What actions would you take to enhance government transparency and trust in government?

A campaign of public engagement needs to be a priority, and we need to make sure that all Georgians can access records easily, including those of us who are differently abled. I would propose the creation of a self-service public document portal to address the backlog of public records requests. I would advocate for the integration of other applications to improve information usability.

Do you believe Georgia elections are secure and what additional security measures can be taken?

Georgia elections are more secure than they have ever been, as we have seen and been assured of by our secretary of state. I would push back against doing away with electronic voting machines as tabulating paper votes by hand is far more prone to human error.

What is government's responsibility to ensure affordable housing?

The responsibility of state and local government with respect to housing is to ensure that the people who work, live, pray and play here can also live here, and still provide for the needs of their families. In Senate District 55, oftentimes people who work here are having to travel fairly far outside of the district for housing that they can afford. State government also has a fiduciary responsibility to make sure that federal grants and subsidies are administered fairly, and that housing is not only available but also safe.

Do you believe public access to public records is sufficient in your jurisdiction and, if not, what steps do you support to remedy that?

As previously stated, I would advocate for the creation of a self-service public document portal to address the backlog of public records requests. I would also advocate for the integration of other applications to improve information usability.
