Shelane grew up in central Florida. She has a bachelor's degree from the University of Central Florida and two master's degrees in business administration and public policy from Harvard.

Shelane is campaigning full time, but previously worked as a consultant and instructor for Sofina Network. She is a former U.S. Army Special Operations Soldier with 11 years of service, including deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Syria.
