Summary
Warfel is an assistant public defender and an incumbent on the board who was elected in 2020. During his campaign in 2020, he discussed concerns with remote learning during the first year of the COVID pandemic. He has a bachelor's degree from UNC-Wilmington and a JD from Charlotte School of Law. He was born in Wilmington but attended K-12 in the Cumberland County public school system. He is a registered Republican. During his time on the Board of Education, he supported the motion to recommend E.E. Smith High School be rebuilt on Stryker Golf Course on Fort Liberty, saying in his answers to CityView’s candidate questionnaire that it was “the most cost-effective solution.” Warfel said that if he had control of the county and its school district, he would “allocate more of the county’s budget to boost salaries for our teachers and support staff,” as well as “fund events aimed at raising funds for and awareness of issues affecting at-risk communities and families” in the county.
