Nathan was born in Wilmington and raised in Hope Mills. He attended South View High School. He has a bachelor's degree in business management and marketing from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a law degree from Charlotte School of Law. Nathan has 4 children. 

Nathan is an attorney. He works as an assistant public defender with the Cumberland County's Office of the Public Defender. He previously worked as a juvenile defender for the Cumberland County Juvenile Court and as an assistant public defender for the Cumberland County Superior Court.  

Nathan Warfel currently serves as a member of the Cumberland County Board of Education in District 6. He was elected in 2020 and is serving his first term. He serves as the vice chairperson of the governing board.
