Mike grew up in Burlington, N.C. and attended Western Alamance High School. He has a bachelor's degree in music performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a law degree from Duke University School of Law. He currently resides in Wake Forest with his wife, Carmon, and their four young sons. The family attends Summit Church.

Mike is litigation council at Michael Best & Friedrich LLP. Previously, Mike has worked as a constitutional law fellow at Regent University School of Law, legal fellow at the John Locke Foundation, and a Judicial law clerk for then-N.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice Mark Martin. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a member of the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps from 2011 to 2015.
