He earned his Bachelor's degree in History from Florida Atlantic University and his Master’s Degree of Education, Administration, and Supervision from West Georgia College. He moved to Georgia in 1981. He lives in Fayetteville with his wife, Evelyn.

He began his teaching career in Georgia at North Clayton High School in College Park in 1981 and eventually moved to Fayette County where he began working as an administrator.
