Sheikh was born in Bangladesh, then known as East Pakistan. He immigrated to America in 1981. He now lives in Gwinnett.

Sheikh attended Central Piedmont Community College before earning his degree in Economics & Global Studies at the University of Georgia. Sheikh manages rental properties across the state. He previously worked as an executive at Pizza Hut after working for years as a dishwasher and restaurant manager.

Sheikh is the current state Senator for District 5. He is the Secretary of the Urban
Affairs Committee. He also serves on the Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Economic Development and Tourism, Government Oversight, and Special Judiciary committees.
