Karl has a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Buffalo and a master's degree in criminal justice from Virginia Commonwealth University. He also graduated from the National Sheriff's Institute. He lives with his wife, Karen. He has five daughters.

Karl used to be a major at the Chesterfield Police Department. He served as a captain in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Karl S. Leonard

Karl has a wife, Karen and five daughters. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Buffalo, and a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice at Virginia Commonwealth University. He also graduated from National Sheriffs' Institute.

Karl served in the US Coast Guard from 1985 - 2015. He earned the rank of a Captain in 1990. Karl served as a Major in the Chesterfield Police Department from 1981 - 2012.

Karl Leonard serves as a Sheriff in Chesterfield County since 2014. He won in a special election in 2014 and since then won in two consecutive elections in 2015 and 2019. He is currently finishing his third term.
