Hala Ayala used to be the state delegate representing district 51. She was first elected in 2017 and was in office for two terms. She previously ran for lieutenant governor in 2021 but did not win.

Said, "effects of climate change disproportionately affect Black and Brown communities" and that we need to address environmental issues from a racial perspective.

Believes that climate change is a national security threat due to rising sea levels near Virginia's military bases.
