Donald was born and raised in Douglas, and later moved to Tempe/Mesa in the 1970s. He attended Mesa Community College for fine arts photography studies and earned a bachelors degree in quality management from the National Graduate School. Don and his wife Barbara have three children. They are active members of St. Timothy Catholic Church.

Donald is retired, but does woodworking, 3D printing, and laser engraving freelance. He previously has worked as an enterprise software architect at Nationwide Insurance, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, Honeywell Information Services, the Arizona Department of Education, Microsoft, and Prudential Financial.
