Mayfield holds a bachelor's degree in Mathematics from the University of North Georgia, a Masters Degree in Technology and Curriculum from Western Governors University, and a doctorate degree in education leadership from Liberty University. Mayfield currently resides in Dahlonega, Georgia. 

Mayfield is a safety coordinator with the Lumpkin County School System. He has worked several roles in the Lumpkin County School district as a High School Assistant Principal, Math Teacher and CTAE Director, and in the Mountain Education Charter High School system as an IT Support Specialist and Graduation Coach. He is also a retired U.S. Army veteran, previously serving as a sergeant.
