Jay is from Waycross, Georgia. He has a bachelors degree in secondary education and teaching and a masters degree in elementary education and teaching from the University of Georgia and a masters degree in educational administration and supervision and an educational specialists degree in educational leadership and administration from Valdosta University. Jay and his wife Mary Colvin Brinson live in Cordele and have two children. 

Jay is the superintendent of schools for the Crisp County School System. Previously, he was the superintendent of Jasper County Schools and the principal of Crisp County High School. 

Jay L. Brinson is currently serving as a member of the Crisp County Board of Education representing District 1. He was elected in 2022 and is serving his first term.
