Vance and his wife, Michele, have been married for 44 years and have three children and five grandchildren, with a sixth on the way. They attend St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Vance C. Smith Jr. is the owner and operator of Vance Smith Contracting and Consulting, providing services to Pond & Co., a Georgia-based engineering company. He previously held the position of President & CEO at Vance Smith Construction Co., which was established in 1974. 

Vance C. Smith Jr. is the current Georgia State House Representative for District 138.  He was elected to this position in 2023. He has also held the position of Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Transportation for over two years. Additionally, he has experience serving on the Harris County Commission, including a term as its Chairman.
