Sandra holds a bachelor's degree from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University in business administration, and a Master of Arts degree in early childhood education teaching from Armstrong State University. She is married and has a son and grandson. She's involved with the National Foundation of Women Legislators and Women in Government, where she serves as state director. 

Sandra was a schoolteacher for 20 years. In 1984, Scott joined the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Sandra Givens Scott served as a member of the Clayton County Board of Education in 2008.  She is currently Chief Deputy Whip House Democratic Caucus and has served in the Georgia House of Representatives District 76 since 2011.
