Nan has been a resident of Atlanta since 1968. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Virginia. Orrock is an active member of the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of Atlanta and has two grown sons.

Professional background

Nan previously worked for seventeen years for Nabisco and was active in the Bakery, Confectionery, and Tobacco Workers International Union. She has also been involved with various organizations, including the Women Legislators’ Lobby, the Sapelo Foundation, and the Fund for Southern Communities.

Political background

Nan Orrock was elected to the Georgia Senate in 2006 and has served since then, representing Senate District 36. Prior to her tenure in the Senate, she served 10 terms in the Georgia House of Representatives, where she was the first woman elected as House majority whip. During her time in the legislature, Orrock has been appointed to several committees, including Health and Human Services, Higher Education, Urban Affairs, Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Overview (MARTOC), and Finance.
