Walter graduated from Brunswick High School and attended college, but did not finish. He is married to his wife Sandra, with whom they have two daughters, and four grandchildren. He attended St. Francis School and Brunswick High School. He served as the Vice Chairman of the Glynn County Board of Commissioners, and on the Zoning Board of Appeals, and was a former Grand Knight and Past Faithful Navigator. He currently serves on the Board of Directors with the Knights of Columbus.
