McBrayer is from Tifton, Georgia and graduated from Tift County High School. He hold's a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College, and a Bachelor's Degree in accounting from Valdosta State College. He is married to his wife, Diane, with whom they have two sons. He is a member of the Tiftarea Tea Party Patriots, serves on the Tift County Planning & Zoning Board of Appeals, and volunteers with Peanut Butter & Jesus, Inc.

McBrayer is the president and owner of a wholesale specialty grocery distributor, TMM Enterprises, Inc. He previously served as a location manager for Winn Dixie in several Georgia locations. He also teaches financial literacy classes at local churches in Tift County.

Tony M. McBrayer is the Tift County Commissioner representing District 3. He was elected to this position in 2018, and is serving his second term. He previously served as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives representing District 153. He was elected to that position in 2010, and served one term.
