Don attended Dalton State College, University of Tennessee Chattanooga, Brenau University, North Western University School of Staff and Command (Illinois), and Columbus State University (Georgia). He has pending degrees in business administration, criminal justice, and public administration. He and his wife live in LaFayette County. He is a volunteer for the Sexual Assault Victims Advocacy Center, the area Chairman for Ducks Unlimited of Northwest Georgia, and was involved in historical preservation efforts as part of the historical Marsh House Committee, serving as a local community board member.

Don is retired as of 2020, and worked as a Troop Commander for Georgia State Patrol on Troop A up until then. He has held various leadership roles within the Georgia State Patrol. Previously, he worked as a reserve police officer and patrolman for the City of LaFayette Police.

Steve graduated from LaFayette High School and attended Northern Virginia Community College. He is married to his wife, and together they have three children and three grandchildren.

Steve has worked with the Walker County Sheriff's Office since 1986. He also worked for the LaFayette Police Department, the Georgia Department of Corrections, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The County Sheriff is an elected official who acts as the chief law enforcement officer in their county. They are tasked with operating the county jails, keeping courtrooms secure during trials, and keeping the public safe through proper law enforcement. Each Sheriff's Office in Georgia may look a little different in how they hire and run their teams, but all County Sheriffs have the same duties. These duties include the following:
