Clay is married to his wife, and together they have two daughters. They reside in Tifton, Georgia.

Clay worked with the Tift County Sheriff's Department for 18 years. He has worked with courtroom security and as the liaison officer of the Tift County Honor Guard.

They also manage the county’s land and property records. Their duties are numerous and include administrative tasks, like accounting and administering oaths, and judicial, like maintaining legal records. They can also potentially fill in for other roles, such as State Court Clerk and Passport Acceptance Agents.
