Heather has a bachelor's degree in English from University of Georgia and completed her law degree at Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law. She and her husband have three children. They live in Baker County and attend Lakeside Baptist Church in Newton.

Heather was previously chief assistant district attorney with the Dougherty County District Attorney's Office, assistant district attorney with South Georgia Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office, a prosecutor in Dougherty County, an intern for Powell & Waters, and a clerk in Baker County. 

Heather Hendricks Lanier is currently a Superior Court judge in the South Georgia Judicial Circuit. She was elected on June 26, 2016 and is serving her second term.
