John attended Ohio Dominican University. John is married to his wife, Pamela, with whom he has 4 children. 

John is a business owner. He previously worked as an administrator in the State Treasurer's office and the Franklin County Clerk of Courts office. 

John O'Grady currently serves as a Franklin County Commissioner. He was elected to this position in 2008 and is serving his fourth term. He is the president of the governing board. He is also the chairperson of the General Government & Operations Committee and the vice-chairperson of the Large Urban County Caucus for the National Association of Counties. He previously served as the Clerk of Courts of the Franklin County Common Pleas Courts and as a Court of Appeals Judge in District 10, both for 2 terms each.
