• Taxes — Senators can write and support bills to raise or lower your taxes. Additionally, senators have the ability to pass the budget. Therefore, senators also influence how your tax dollars are spent.

• Public Safety — Senators can write and support bills that affect gun ownership in the state. For example, Senate Bill (SB) 148 was passed by the senate in February of 2024. This bill makes gun purchases easier for Ohioans and prevents governmental organizations from having a list of gun owners. Another example includes Senate Bill (SB) 164, which has not been passed. This bill would prevent people who have been convicted of domestic violence from having a firearm.
