Charlie attended the Baylor military school and then earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University. He resides in the Fort Worth area. Charlie's volunteer work includes the Ronald McDonald House, Rotary Club, and Fort Worth Zoo. 

Charlie is the president of Railhead Smokehouse and a principal and founding partner of the commercial real estate firm of Kelly, Geren, & Searcy. He also previously served as a deputy to the United States Marshals and president of LGS Godly Ranch Corporation.

Charlie Geren currently serves as a state representative for Texas State House District 99. He was first elected in 2000 and is serving his 11th term. Charlie previously served on the Tarrant Regional Water District Board of Directors and as chairman of the Texas Resource Finance Authority.
