Trey King is from Stephens County, Georgia. He attended Young Harris College and the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Dawn, have three sons. They attend Ebenezer Baptist Church in the Harbins community.

Trey is a chemistry teacher at Collins Hill High School, where he has worked for 26 years. Before becoming a teacher, he spent 15 years as a retail pharmacist.

Trey is currently the mayor of Dacula. He was appointed to the position in 2020 and won a full term in a special election in 2021. Before serving as mayor, he served 10 years on the Dacula City Council.
