Bill is the president of the Chelsea Area Historical Society. He previously served as the executive director of the Chelsea Senior Center for over five years. He also served on the Chelsea Downtown Development Authority for several years, including as vice president.

William O'Reilly's campaign for Chelsea City Council Member is his first entry into politics. He was appointed to the city's Downtown Development Authority from 2016-2021, where he served as its secretary and then vice president.
