Virginia House of Delegates Member Listings

Briana Sewell is from Woodbridge, Virginia. She has a bachelor's degree in public policy from the College of William and Mary and a master's degree in public administration from American University. She attends First Mount Zion Baptist Church.

Briana is the chief of staff to the chair of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors. She previously worked as the senior organizer and northern Virginia political director for the Virginia Campaign for a Family Friendly Economy and as the Prince William County District Director for Congressman Gerald Connolly.

Briana D. Sewell is currently a member of the Virginia House of Delegates, representing District 25. She assumed office in 2024 and is currently serving her first term. 

As a state delegate, sponsored a bill that allows public employees to engage in collective bargaining.

Economy

As a state delegate, sponsored legislation requiring Dominion Energy Virginia to petition the State Corporation Commission for approval to conduct a pilot program to evaluate methods to optimize demand through various technology applications, including the establishment of virtual power plants, by December 1, 2025.

Energy & the Environment

Supports creating the Virginia Center for Firearm Violence Intervention and Prevention to research and implement strategies for reducing community violence.

Sponsored HB 1718, which allows localities to enforce the Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act if landlords fail to address serious health and safety violations in rental properties.

Sponsored legislation that would establish a paid family and medical leave insurance program in Virginia.

Sponsored House Bill 2619, which would require private companies providing public transportation services to offer employee compensation and benefits equivalent to those of public employees with similar qualifications and experience.

Public Safety

Supports equity in public school funding and staffing, including additional support for special education, at-risk, and English language learner students.

Education

Supports requiring health insurance to cover contraceptive drugs and devices without copayment or fee.

Sponsored legislation that would require health insurance carriers to respond to prior authorization requests within a set timeframe, publicly list required services and codes, and provide reasons for any denials.

As a House Delegate, sponsored HB 2534 to authorize crisis stabilization services for nonhospitalized individuals.

As a state delegate, sponsored House Bill (HB) 2122 to require landlords to provide a copy of any written rental agreement and the statement of tenant rights and responsibilities within 10 business days of the effective date of the written rental agreement.

Healthcare

As a state delegate, sponsored legislation to establish penalties for local electoral board members who fail to certify election results.
