James Dawson Harper earned his associate's degree from Dalton State College and is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He volunteers as the vice chair of the Northwest Georgia Young Republicans.

James currently works as a project lead for the Georgia Tech Supersonics Club and as a student assistant for the Georgia Tech Institute for Matter and Systems.
