Kim is the interim Muskegon County commissioner for District 7. She works at the Muskegon County Board of Commissioners, where she has been since February 1, 2026. She previously served on the Muskegon Heights City Council, first elected in November 2003, and she was the mayor of Muskegon Heights from 2015 to 2019.

Kimberly Sims is currently the interim Muskegon County Commissioner representing District 7. She was appointed in February 2026 to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of former Commissioner Charles Nash and will serve until a special election is held later this year.
