Melissa Schultz earned a bachelor's degree in apparel and textile design from Michigan State University, and a master's degree in higher education administration from University of Arkansas.

Melissa currently works as the chief student enrollment officer for Schoolcraft College. She previously worked as the associate dean of retention and student success and director of student success and retention at Schoolcraft College. Melissa also previously served as dean of student affairs at South University, assistant residential life coordinator at Western Kentucky University, residential hall director at University of New Hampshire, graduate resident director at University of Arkansas, and assistant designer and technical designer at Dillard's, a fashion apparel and home furnishings retailer.

Melissa previously ran for the Michigan House of Representatives for District 53 in 2024 but did not win.
