Hillary Scholten is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She earned a bachelor’s degree in social work and a law degree from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. Hillary lives in Grand Rapids with her two sons.

Hillary is an attorney. Before taking public office, she worked for the U.S. Department of Justice, where she focused on immigration and civil rights issues. She also worked as a law clerk for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Earlier in her career, she worked as a social worker. She also served as a deacon in her local church. 

Hillary is an attorney and currently works as senior counsel at Miller Johnson. She previously worked as a staff attorney for the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, judicial law clerk and attorney advisor for the U.S. Department of Justice Board of Immigration Appeals, immigration staff attorney for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, accredited representative for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, social worker, and case worker for the Aids Action Committee.
