Tim Walberg is from Chicago, Illinois. He earned his bachelor's degree from Fort Wayne Bible College and his master's degree from Wheaton College. He and his wife, Sue, live in Tipton, Michigan, and have three adult children and six grandchildren.

Tim previously worked as a pastor for nearly 10 years. He also served as a division manager for the Moody Bible Institute. Before retiring in 2006, he worked as president of the Warren Reuther Center for Education and Community Impact. To help pay his way through college, he worked as a union steel mill worker.
