Esters spent more than 30 years as an educator, including as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. She most recently 

 as interim principal at Plain View Primary School, which closed in 2024. Esters, who was born and raised in Bladen County, is a U.S. Navy veteran. She attended Saint Augustine’s College where she studied business administration. She ran for a seat on the school board in 2024 but did
