Biography

Kevin Boxberger was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 2002 to 2007. He graduated from Wayne High School. He earned an associate degree from the Community College of the Air Force in 2007, a bachelor's degree from Colorado Technical University in 2007, and a law degree from the North Carolina Central University School of Law in 2013.

IDS is pleased to announce that Kevin Boxberger is our newest Regional Defender. Kevin most recently was an IDS contracting attorney in Wake County. He is a graduate of North Carolina Central University School of Law.

IDS Welcomes Kevin Boxberger as New Regional Defender - Indigent Defense Services

After Kevin’s military career, he was a Raleigh firefighter for three years prior to attending law school.

A native of Indiana, Kevin enlisted in the United States Air Force right out of high school and served for nearly seven years. While in the Air Force, Kevin obtained two college degrees and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant and served a tour in Iraq prior to completing his military commitment.

Kevin currently works as a regional defender for Indigent Defense Services. He previously worked as an Indigent Defense Services contracting attorney in Wake County and as a Raleigh firefighter. He served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force for nearly seven years.

Kevin Boxberger (Democratic Party) is a judge for District 10D Seat 3 of the North Carolina 10th Judicial District. He assumed office on May 20, 2024. His current term ends on December 31, 2028.

Boxberger (Democratic Party) ran in a special election for the District 10D Seat 3 judge of the North Carolina 10th Judicial District. He won in the special general election on November 5, 2024.

Boxberger also ran for election for the District 10D Seat 5 judge of the North Carolina 10th Judicial District. He lost in the Democratic primary on March 5, 2024. Boxberger unofficially withdrew from the race but appeared on the primary election ballot on March 5, 2024.

### What is your judicial philosophy?

My judicial philosophy is to listen to all the evidence and arguments of counsel. Based on the evidence and arguments, I will develop the facts of the case and apply those facts to the correct law. My rulings will not be arbitrary or capricious. Rather, they will be well-rooted in the law. Moreover, I will be transparent in my rulings, thereby ensuring that each party understands how I came to my decision.

### Tell us about a specific event in your legal career of which you are most proud.

In 2014, I had the opportunity to represent pro bono four people charged with various offenses related to the Moral Monday movement. This movement encompassed members of the community who exercised their constitutional right to peaceful protest. Due to my service to the community, I was awarded the Humanitarian of the Year award by the North Carolina chapter of the NAACP.
