Scott Hammonds studied  Criminal Justice at Beaufort County Community College. He has a wife.

Scott has worked in law enforcement since 1985.

Scott is currently the Beaufort County sheriff. He was elected in 2022 and is currently serving his first term. Before becoming sheriff, Scott served with military police for 30 years, worked with the Division of Driver License and State Police NCDMV from 1992 to 2003, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol from 2003 to 2019.
