Dustin Hillis has a bachelor's degree in microbiology from Middle Tennessee State University, a bachelor's degree in nursing from Georgia State University and a master's degree in public administration from Valdosta State University. He lives with his wife in the Riverside neighborhood.

Dustin Hillisworked as a critical care registered nurse in the neuroscience ICU at Emory University Hospital since 2013. He was also in Emory's Serious Communicable Disease Unit during the 2014-2016 Ebola outbreak.

As a city council member, he worked to save or add "over 900 affordable housing units" to the district and "establish an owner-occupied rehab program for our elderly and legacy residents."

Public Safety

As a city council member, he supported building a $90 million police and firefighter training facility on 85 acres of the Old Atlanta Prison Farm that the city previously set aside as greenspace. The facility, nicknamed "Cop City" by activists, is widely opposed by residents, businesses and environmental nonprofits.

As a city council member, he wanted to sell the city jail to Fulton County to help ease overcrowding inside the county jail.

As a city council member, he voted against withholding $73 million from the Atlanta Police Department's budget until Mayor Keisha Lance Bottom’s administration drafted a plan to reform policing.

Transportation & Infrastructure

As a city council member, he wanted to create a "Special Service District" around the Beltline "to bring in $100 million in additional tax revenue over the next 10 years" that would go to affordable housing, job creation and small businesses.

As a city council member, he was responsible for "the installation of traffic calming measures on many local streets" and supports the installation of more than 10,000 additional streetlights across the city.
