John has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from South Carolina State University and a master's degree in transportation planning and engineering from North Carolina State University. He is currently working on a master's degree of public policy in urban planning from University of Southern California. He is chair of Brookhaven's Social Justice, Race and Equity Commission and was on the Planning Commission for Brookhaven for eight years. He has lived in Brookhaven since 2010.
