Dilip has lived in Johns Creek for 21 years. He moved to the United States in 1991. He has a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, a master's degree in environmental engineering from Lamar University and a master's degree in business administration with a major in finance from Georgia State University. He was on the Johns Creek Town Center Advisory committee, the Recreation & Parks Advisory committee, Johns Creek Arts Center committee and Autery Mill Nature Preserve Park committee. He and his wife, Padma, have a daughter, Sindhu.

Dilip currently works as COO and CFO of Serenity Infotech. He previously worked as an engineer for ENSR Corporation, Geo-Basics, Inc. and Earthsense Enterprises, Inc.

Dilip Tunki previously ran for Johns Creek city council, Post 2 in 2019 but was unsuccessful.
