Matt has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Clark Atlanta University and a master's degree in supply chain management from Penn State University. He was chair of the Norcross Planning and Zoning Board and a member of the Norcross Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee and the Norcross Development Authority Founding Board.
