Peter has a bachelor's degree in zoology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a doctor of dental surgery degree from Emory University. He was on the Roswell Planning Commission, a stakeholder member of the Roswell 2040 Comprehensive Plan Committee and a board member of his neighborhood Home Owner's Association. He and his wife, Betty,  have two daughters, Caroline and Christine. They attend Roswell Presbyterian Church.

Peter is a dentist who owns his own practice, Artistic Dentistry of Atlanta, which he has run for 33 years.

Peter Vanstrom's campaign for city council is his first entry into politics.

Wants to "protect and preserve our neighborhoods, our historic district, parks and river, and at the same time, promote smart business growth."

Said, "it is concerning because our city is stalling out, with many projects going unfinished or never getting started. We are missing opportunities to promote our town. We need to manage our continued growth in a way that protects the charm and character that attracted so many of us to Roswell in the first place."

Said, "I am a fan of smart business growth, but not a fan of traffic or destroying the character of our neighborhoods.:
