Jana has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Florida A&M University, a master's degree in urban education from Goddard College and an education specialist degree in curriculum from Piedmont College. She is also pursuing her PhD in educational studies. She has lived with her husband and two sons in Decatur since 2013.

Jana taught for 14 years at Renfroe Middle School.
