Nolan is the founder and President of Traveling Grace Ministries and Higher Love Ministries, "a conglomeration of entities, church and civic leaders seeking to strengthen established churches, start new church plants, and eradicate homelessness." He previously served in the United States Army for 13 years, enlisting during his junior year of high school.

Nolan's campaign for mayor is his first entry into politics.
