Katie is originally from Central Florida. She has lived in Cherokee County since 2007. She has a bachelor's degree in family, youth, and community sciences from the University of Florida. She is married with two children.

Katie was a youth minister for fourteen years. She also worked as a church consultant and a project manager for a ministry.

Katie McRee's campaign for board of education is her first entry into politics.
