Michelle is originally from New York City. She has lived in the Atlanta area for almost 15 years. She has a bachelor's degree from Wellesley College and a medical degree and a master's degree in public health from Columbia University. She lives with her husband, Joseph, and their three children in Johns Creek.

Michelle is an anesthesiologist. She is a partner in a private practice group called Physician Specialists in Anesthesia. She did her residency at Columbia University in pediatrics and anesthesiology.

Michelle  is currently the state senator for district 48. She was first elected in 2020 and has been in office for one term. She is co-chair of the General Assembly working group on addiction and recovery.
