Sylvia has lived in Canton for six years. She is currently working on a doctorate degree in psychology at Grand Canyon University. She lives with her husband, Robert. They have three adult children and three grandchildren.

Sylvia is the founder of Project Female, a life coaching service. She was also a children's book author, and she used to work as a social worker. She is an ordained minister.
