Lucy McBath is originally from Joliet, Illinois. She has a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Virginia State University. She lives with her husband and her dog in Georgia. In 2012, Lucy's only son was shot and killed at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida, prompting her to enter politics as an advocate for increased gun safety measures. She is also a two-time breast cancer survivor.

Prior to Lucy's role in Congress, she previously worked at Everytown for Gun Safety, Moms Demand Action, Walk with Jordan Movement, and Delta Air Lines. She is the Founder of Champion in the Making Legacy Foundation.

Political background

Lucy McBath is currently the US Representative representing Georgia's 6th Congressional District. She was elected in 2018, and is serving her second term. She serves on the House Committee on the Judiciary, and the House Committee on Education and Labor. She is the Vice Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.

Healthcare

As a Representative in 2019, she allocated $25 million to the Centers for Disease Control and the National Institutes of Health for gun violence prevention research. These were the first secured funds for gun violence epidemic research in over 20 years.
