Mike was born in Macon. He has a Bachelor's degree from Mercer University and a law degree from John Marshall law school. He lives with his wife, Jeri. He has a son and a grandson.

Michael has been an attorney for 46 years. He used to be in the U.S. Army, where he served in Vietnam. After serving in the army, he worked in general aviation in Macon while attending college at night. He obtained his pilot's license, ground instructor license, served as a check pilot, and became a certified SCUBA diver.
