Shawn has lived in Cherokee County for 31 years. He has a bachelor's degree in business administration from Pfeiffer University. He is married and has two adult children and three grandchildren.

Shawn works in recruiting for healthcare technology companies, where he has worked for 12 years. He used to work in the healthcare technology industry for Medex, B.Brawn, and Smiths Medical.

Shawn Tolan is currently a city council member for Canton, representing District 2. He was first elected in 2019 and has been in office for one term.
