Jose holds a bachelor's degree in elementary education and master's degree in education leadership from Arizona State University. He is married to his wife, Cindy, with whom he has 2 children and 2 grandchildren. He lives in Avondale.

Jose currently works as a principal at PT Coe Elementary School in the Isaac School District #5, where he previously worked as a campus administrator and classroom teacher. He also worked as an assistant superintendent of human resources for the Phoenix Union High School District and principal at Trevor Browne High School.

Jose currently serves as a member of the Pendergrast Elementary School District in Tolleson Union. He was first appointed in 2013 and is serving his third term.
