Shean earned a professional degree in architecture from Howard University's School of Architecture and City Planning. He volunteers as a board member of Community ImPACT and previously served as the financial secretary of his local Alpha Phi Alpha chapter. He lives in East Point and attends Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Shean currently works as the principal consultant for the Atkins Group. He previously worked as the vice president of external and governmental affairs and corporate communications for Atlanta Housing, chief of staff and senior legislative advisor for an Atlanta City Council member, and as an architectural designer and director of business development for a local architectural firm.

Shean L. Atkins's campaign for East Point City Council Ward B is his first run for public office. He currently serves as the chair of the East Point Planning and Zoning Commission.
