Alvin is from Waycross and attended Waycross High School. He has a bachelors of business administration in public administration and a masters of business administration in marketing and marketing management from Colorado Technical University. He is married and has two daughters. 

Alvin D. Nelson was elected as a City Commissioner for District 5 of the City of Waycross in 2023. He was removed by order of the Superior Court because of a challenge to the outcome of the November 2023 election.
